About Commonworks Energy: three BC firms, one utility.
Commonworks Energy was formed in 2026 by three British Columbia firms that have spent decades designing, building and maintaining mechanical systems in multi-unit buildings.
The brand is new. The hands are not. We put the three firms under one name because the split between designer, installer and service company is exactly what fails buildings.
Commonworks Energy operates as a thermal energy utility within the BC Utilities Commission’s thermal energy systems framework.
Our commitments
- A fixed monthly capacity charge for the term.
- Energy billed at our cost, with no markup.
- A written performance report to your council every year.
- Response times defined in the agreement, not on a website.
- Contracts in plain language, walked through with your council before any vote.
- No hidden escalators.
- Cooling and heating from the same plant, where your building’s piping allows it.
- A written 25-year comparison for your building before any vote, with our assumptions shown.
- We own the plant, so we maintain it to its design efficiency.
- One agreement, one phone number, one party answerable for the result.
- Your depreciation report no longer has to fund the plant.
- The assessment report is yours whether or not you proceed.
How we make money
We earn a return on the capital we put into your building and a margin inside the fixed capacity charge. We do not mark up energy. We earn nothing from repairs, because repairs are our cost. We do not sell your data or your contract, and if the agreement is ever assigned its terms do not change.
Who this is not for
- Buildings heated by electric baseboards, with no central plant. There is no plant for us to replace.
- Buildings planning redevelopment within ten years. A 25-year agreement on a building that is coming down helps nobody.
- Buildings below 40 units, where the numbers do not work. The capacity charge would take too large a share of the budget to justify.
